It's holiday time
I wonder how many people will find this site during the holidays.
School holidays are a time to relax and do your own thing.

When I was at University, in the Neolithic Era, a very dull man told me that most books, even really good books, simply disappear. Even if these books were hugely popular in their time, and won prizes, nobody will even have heard of them in ten years, and in a hundred years it will be like they never existed. I read a book called Jacky Nobody over the holidays which was a really good novel about Hone Heke chopping down the flagpole at Kororareka. It won the children's book of the year at some point in the 1980s in New Zealand. I'd never heard of it, and it's out of print. If you want a second hand copy you can buy it through Amazon for US$60. Most books end up being like extinct butterflies or stamps printed upside down - precious because of their rarity.
Surely there are copies of Jacky Nobody and it's sequel, The Bat's Nest, available. Yes - if you are prepared to pay large sums of money and purchase in the US or the UK. The best option would be to frequent second-hand book sales, or wait for a republication. I saw that one of the Far North museums were trying to get that to happen.
